Fertilise with Confidence Through Tight Windows

Effective nitrogen management is about more than timing applications correctly. It’s about balancing crop demand, environmental responsibility, and scheme compliance.

Nitrasol supports growers with practical nitrogen strategies designed to help improve nutrient efficiency while aligning with NVZ rules, Red Tractor standards, and evolving best practice.

AdvaNShield®: Protected Nitrogen You Can Rely On

AdvaNShield® is designed to support more efficient nitrogen use by helping reduce ammonia volatilisation losses from urea-based applications. Benefits include Improved nitrogen retention potential, Reduced ammonia emissions, Support for best-practice nutrient management, and Compatibility with protected urea requirements under current industry guidance

AdvaNShield does not replace NVZ rules or closed-period restrictions. All applications must still comply with current legislation, crop need, weather conditions, and assurance scheme requirements.

CLOSED PERIOD EXPLAINED

Understanding NVZ Closed Periods in England

In Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs), there are statutory closed periods when certain nitrogen fertilisers cannot be applied.
For manufactured nitrogen fertilisers in England, closed periods generally apply:
Additional restrictions apply to organic manures with high readily available nitrogen, with dates varying according to soil type and land use. Some limited crop-specific exceptions exist under NVZ legislation, but these are tightly controlled and must be justified within a compliant nutrient management plan. Growers should always check the latest Defra and Environment Agency guidance before application decisions.

Other compliance considerations

Red Tractor & Option 4 Requirements

Red Tractor standards and the UK fertiliser industry’s ammonia reduction commitments are separate from NVZ legislation

Under the industry’s “Option 4” approach, applications of untreated urea fertiliser are restricted unless protected with a recognised urease inhibitor or incorporated within the required timeframe. This is designed to help reduce ammonia emissions and improve nitrogen efficiency.

Products treated with recognised inhibitor technology may support compliance with these requirements where used appropriately and in accordance with product guidance.

Supports compliant nutrient management

Foliar N for Early and Sensitive Periods

Foliar nitrogen supports crop performance during key growth stages, helping maintain nutrient availability when soil conditions or root uptake are limiting. Low-volume application and tank-mix flexibility make it easier to apply efficiently during tight spray windows.

Low-volume, low-runoff

Efficient application with minimal waste

Flag leaf & tillering

Timed for peak crop sensitivity

Tank-mix compatible

Pairs with early spray programmes

Minimal soil interaction

= Lower runoff risk
